2020 Season of Nigeria Spelling Bee kicks off with Kano State

The Nigeria Spelling Bee has officially kicked off its 2020 Season competition with the Kano State Level Qualifiers held today at Prime Primary School Kano.

The Nigeria Spelling Bee competition is a literary competition organised by the Bee Spelling Competition Initiative with the endorsement of the Federal Ministry of Education.

Tens of thousands of students across the country are slated to compete from their respective state levels through the regionals, with a chance of emerging National Champions at the National Finals in July 2020.

The competition is divided into Senior (16yrs & below) and Junior (13yrs & below) categories with National Grand Prizes of #1,000,000 and #500,000 scholarships respectively. National champions and their runners-up also get an opportunity to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee where they stand to win Full Tuition Scholarship into Monash South Africa worth about $20,000 and other exciting prizes.

Speaking at the Kano State qualifiers, the National Coordinator, Mr Abdulsalam Ibrahim urged all spellers in Kano as well as other parts of the country to read broadly and diligently towards building their vocabulary with their eyes on the Championship prize and achieving academic excellence.

The competition which has previously produced the best spellers in Africa in previous seasons will be conducted in all the 36 states of the Federation including the FCT during the course of the 1st and 2nd terms of the 2019/2020 academic session.

Dates for the contest across the country can be seen on the online calendar at www.NigeriaSpellingBee.com/calendar
