Borno State Qualifiers, 2019 Season

The “Home of Peace” was home to the Nigeria Spelling Bee as the Borno State Qualifier of the competition was conducted in Maiduguri today. The Federal Government College Maiduguri was the Host School.

Hundreds of spellers from different parts of Borno State converged for the competition to represent their respective schools and vie for the chance to represent the State in subsequent levels of the competition.

After a few rounds, the following spellers emerged as the best spellers in the state.

Juniors:

  • Abubakar Ibn Abbas of Abande Memorial Secondary School, old GRA, Maiduguri
  • Aisha Mohammed Yahaya of Ruby Springfield College, Maiduguri
  • Aisha Hassan Mustapher of Bara Imul Iman Integrated Islamic School, Maiduguri
  • Ali Muhammad Ali of Maiduguri International School Educational Trust
  • Asmau Balogi Amartey of Little Wonders Schools, Borno State
  • Chinwendu Izuogu of Treasures Richfield College, Borno State
  • Deborah Christopher Mtaku of Little Wonders Schools, Borno State
  • Falmata Usman of Abande Memorial Secondary School, old GRA, Maiduguri
  • Mordecai Amaike of Federal Government Government, Maiduguri
  • Muhammad Algoni Hassan of Treasures Richfield College, Borno State

These spellers will go on to compete as the Borno Team in the Regional Levels of the competition alongside other North-East top spellers such as those from Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Adamawa and Taraba states.

Regional top spellers will go on to the National Finals to compete for a chance to win the Nigeria Spelling Bee title, a N1,000,000 scholarship and an all-expense-paid to represent Nigeria at the 2019 African Spelling Bee in Kampala – Uganda.
