The “Jewel in the Savannah” (Gombe State) played host to the best Spellers in the North-East region of Nigeria as these Spellers converged to showcase their spelling prowess and clinch a slot to be among the 61 National Finalists of the 2019 Season of the Nigeria Spelling Bee.
The Spellers included the African Spelling Bee participant for the 2018 Season in Kenya, Hauwau Abubakar who made Nigeria proud by winning the Best Country Team Trophy at the continental event together with other Team Nigeria spellers.
The competition consisted of a written Round-1 and subsequent oral spelling bee which produced the 10 Spellers to progress to the National Finals stage.
These Spellers include:

Fatima Z. Ahmed of Matrix International Academy, Gombe State
Hauwa’u H. Abubakar of Matrix International Academy, Gombe State
Mordecai Amaike of Federal Government College Maiduguri, Borno State
Suleiman M. Dunoma of Federal Government College Maiduguri, Borno State
Summayyah I. Muhammad of Matrix International Academy, Gombe State
The above exceptional Spellers will meet with other contestants from the remaining 5 geopolitical zones in Nigeria for a chance to win scholarships and cash prizes at the Grand Finale in Ritman University Ikot-Ekpene Akwa-Ibom State from the 24th to 27th July 2019.
National Champions will also win an all-expenses-paid to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee 2019 in Uganda.
